A well-understood decommissioning solution, in-situ technology and expertise has been developed and grown over this period. \u00a0Several sites in the United States have used this approach:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Savannah River National Laboratory \u2013 Savannah River Site R and P Reactors<\/li>\n<li>Nebraska Energy \u2013 Hallam<\/li>\n<li>U.S. Department of Energy \u2013 Hallam Fact Sheet<\/li>\n<li>Regulatory Review \u2013 CNSC Staff Report on the Performance of CNL\u2019s Nuclear Sites and Projects: Environmental focus \u2013 samples taken 2012, 2013, 2014<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"grid_8\">\n<div class=\"clearfix\">\n<div id=\"tmpl_cbmain_block1\" class=\"ow_block\">\n<h4><strong>Environmentally sound<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>CNL will ensure that In-situ decommissioning is safe for the environment. These reactor projects are subject to an environmental assessment.\u00a0 The Environmental Assessment process is a robust process led by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and conducted under the <em><a class=\"trackExternal\" href=\"https:\/\/laws-lois.justice.gc.ca\/eng\/acts\/C-15.21\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0 The Environmental Assessment will evaluate project activities and the mitigation strategy for any possible environmental effects throughout the life of the project.<\/p>\n<p>The Environmental Assessment process will determine CNL\u2019s actions during the implementation of this project, leading to continued responsible environmental stewardship.<\/p>\n<p>CNL has a solid record of accomplishment on environmental protection. CNL\u2019s environmental policy, and Environmental Management System monitor and inform reporting on CNL\u2019s environmental performance.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnl.ca\/environmental-protection\/environmental-protection\/\">ISO 14001 certification<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Performance Reporting\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnl.ca\/en\/home\/environmental-stewardship\/performance-report\/default.aspx\">Environmental Performance Reporting<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a class=\"trackExternal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nuclearsafety.gc.ca\/eng\/resources\/maps-of-nuclear-facilities\/iemp\/ch-river.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Regulatory Review &#8211; CNSC Staff Report on the Performance of CNL\u2019s Nuclear Sites and Projects: Environmental focus \u2013 samples taken 2012, 2013, 2014<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Safe<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The proposed strategy of in-situ decommissioning provides the best decommissioning option for workers, the public and the environment.\u00a0The chosen decommissioning technique minimizes safety risks; for example it will reduce the chance of dose to workers, and also limits worker exposure to the risk of industrial accident.
